DownUnder GeoSolutions today announced the latest features in the upcoming release of their seismic interpretation system, DUG Insight 4.1. The new release adds curvature analysis and directional similarity to Insight’s suite of geometric attributes. A new template engine extends Insight’s well capabilities with fast, high-resolution well log displays, and the Petrel Link has been upgraded with two-way sync support for 2D seismic and interpretation. DUG was recently announced the Winner of the Most Effective Platform category of the WAITTA Incite Awards. The Incite Awards is in its 25th year and celebrates inspiring ICT innovation in Western Australia. Managing Director of DUG, Dr Matthew Lamont, accepted the award, giving credit to Chief Technology Officer, Stuart Midgley (pictured).
The award celebrated DUG’s breakthrough data centre cooling system which is making their data centres among the most energy efficient in the world. The company’s patent-pending innovation cools their supercomputers in a specially-designed oil-like substance called polyalphaolefin dielectric fluid. The extremely hot components within the servers are then cooled by the circulating fluid rather than the more traditional, expensive and inefficient air cooling methods. As a result of the innovation DUG’s power costs have reduced by 45%. Continue Reading

We’re thrilled to introduce to you our new Chief Operating Officer, Chris Davin. Chris is a world-renowned geophysicist who has previously held leadership roles with Chevron, Unocal, ExxonMobil and Cobalt International Energy during his 35 years in the industry. Chris is relocating from Houston to our Perth head office and his role will include managing our multi-client assets, worldwide offices, procurement processes, legal and project administration teams. Chris commences at DUG on the 16 May before heading off to the EAGE conference in Vienna at the end of the month, followed by the APPEA conference in Brisbane. Welcome to Team DUG, Chris!
On Thursday 5 May, DUG Perth’s Geoscience Manager, Sagar Ronghe, will be visiting Houston to present his one day course on Seismic Reservoir Characterization. Sagar is a specialist in Quantitative Interpretation integrating wireline and seismic data and has over 20 years experience in this area. The course will cover:
- Introduction to quantitative interpretation
- Introduction to rock physics
- Stochastic modeling of end member trends
- Amplitude, AVA and stack rotations
- Deterministic inversion
- Stochastic inversion
- Velocity leveling and scaling
The one day course, including lunch is $500. For bookings or more information simply email QICourse@dugeo.com
Houston residents can also see Sagar present a shorter programme, “Statistical Rock Physics in Seismic Reservoir Characterization”, at the Houston Geophysical Society on Wednesday May 4. For details, click here.
Team DUG, Kuala Lumpur, recently celebrated the coming of Chinese New Year with a traditional lion dance. The lions performed the traditional custom of ‘cai qing’ (meaning ‘plucking the greens’), they were taken on a tour of the office and, in return, offered the gift of prosperity and good luck. 2016 is the Year of the Monkey. Global economic growth is expected in the year of the monkey – it is said to be a good year to break free and take calculated risks. Let’s hope those predictions come true for us all!
This week marked the opening of our beautiful new office in Houston. Team DUG celebrated the event with an open house, inviting clients to join us for barista-made coffee, Aussie desserts and a steak from the barbie (grill). Our visitors enjoyed touring the new space which included the state-of-the-art computer room housing “Bubba”, our supercomputer. We look forward to welcoming many more guests to the Houston Hub in the coming days. Continue reading for more pics. Continue Reading
Visit our big new booth at SEG (booth number #2034) in New Orleans and get ready for big chat. We’ve got lots to talk about.
Firstly, there’s our BIG new office about to open in the Houston energy corridor. It will be the home of our bigger than Ben Hur supercomputer, we’ve named “Bubba”.
Our team in Houston is expanding rapidly too: packed full of the best geos in town with big project experience. Ask us about DUG Insight, or catch one of our demos, on all day during the SEG.
And drop back at 6pm Sunday or 4.30pm Monday and Tuesday for some big band sound from our famous DUGtastic Jazz Trio.
